System Hygienics have completed a ventilation cleaning at HMP Millsike, the UK's first green prison.
HMP Millsike, located in York, Yorkshire, is a prison currently under construction and is due to open in 2025. With an expected prisoner capacity of 1500, this will be the UK's first 'green’ prison. This eco-friendly prison aligns with the government's 2050 net-zero targets. It uses a variety of different technologies and techniques to gain its green status, like using no gas and renewable energy will be used for power.
Upon request from the main contractor, Laing O'Rourke, our teams worked for over four months to complete a pre-commissioned ventilation clean. One of the challenges of this is adhering to strict programs provided by the main contractor. Our work included sampling newly installed ductwork and cleaning as required. Following this, we supplied our client with a full, comprehensive report.
Ventilation cleaning before a handover to other contractors is scheduled in advance and is crucial to project timelines. Without this step, project activity cannot progress. Here at System Hygienics, we can be mindful of all deadlines and ensure that all of our work is completed in a timely manner.
System Hygienics has specialist knowledge in all industries, so we were able to ensure that our selected teams were trained to the high standards required on-site.
All of our works at HMP Millsike were carried out promptly and safely, leaving all areas of the ventilation system clean and ready for Laing O'Rourke to move on to the project's next stage.
"I would personally like to thank System Hygienics for another effortless delivery. Please extend my thanks to Mark and his colleagues for completing the project safely and on time as usual."
