London's Battersea Power Station Phase 2 transformed the site into residential and retail spaces.
Battersea Power Station Phase 2 Project in London was the development of the Battersea Power Station into residential properties and retail. When preparing to welcome their first residents during 2021/22, we were asked to prepare the ductwork serving the shell and core installation within all three basement areas, retail areas and accommodation space.
This project was completed alongside three ductwork and installation specialists including Gardner & Co, with whom we have worked for over 15 years across various projects. We also worked alongside Hotchkiss and ASM, who are also Ductwork Contractors.
For this project, a project manager and a dedicated team of operatives were assigned to ensure the completion of the scope of work in line with the construction programme on-site. This allowed a continuous and consistent site presence that ensured the client's needs were met and the various issues faced on such a large site.
These measures allowed the System Hygienics team to react efficiently to onsite changes. Most of this project was undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns; therefore, strict COVID measures were implemented throughout the project.
Despite numerous delays due to COVID restrictions, a full clean of all ductwork included in the installation onsite was achieved in preparation for system commissioning and handover to the client. This service ensured that the ventilation systems were clean before the building was occupied, ensuring fresh air is provided throughout the building and assisting with the functionality of the ventilation systems.
A note from our Commercial Director, Phil - “This was one of the largest projects ever undertaken by System Hygienics, and a combination of the size of the overall project and the COVID-19 pandemic hitting during the works left us faced with tough decisions and situations throughout. Through the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the Battersea Project, we overcame the issues on-site. As a result, we benefited hugely from the experience and will apply the work ethic required from our teams in all future projects.”
Further Information
The project was completed over a 12-month period working with three ductwork contractors, the main contractor, Mace Group and Dome commissioning agents. The project was one of the largest undertaken by System Hygienics with a value in excess of a quarter of a million pounds. This company and the project have since been nominated for the Small Project of The Year Award at the BESA Awards 2022.
We asked Hotchkiss for some feedback on our work / working with us; Colin Hillman Project Manager has provided the following:
“System Hygienics' overall performance was very good, with high professional standards employed throughout the works. Their onsite crew had a fantastic approach to the work being carried out; relationships were formed and maintained with their engineers and our respective site team.
Their Management Team also maintained great communication with ourselves; the work was planned and actioned well, with any additional client requirements taken on board and attended to without any issues. We also received regular updates, and final test reports were sent without issues.
All works were carried out at times to suit the availability of the labour needed; this was always communicated with plenty of notice so that we, in turn, could advise our client and keep them informed as to when the work would be carried out and how long this might take.”
